Task 3A: Type Design & Communication
Week 10
For the new tax 3B it's all about creating telegram sticker that expresses a greeting .
I chose 'EID ADHA MUBARAK' as it's used every year in the Eidu al adha and this is the upcoming festival which is in July .
The first step in this task is to sketch / design black and white composition that express the greeting typographically , The rules is to to use only minor graphical elements are allowed.
So I started by doing two rough sketches for the sticker idea
 |
| Figure 1: sticker sketches of Eid Adha Mubarak (8/6/2021) |
|
Then I started to digitalising my both ideas
 |
| Figure 2: First trial sketch (9/6/2021) |
 |
| Figure 3: second trial sketch (9/6/2021) |
This is my result for the first two designs, I tried to create something simple and to insert Taylor's Logo as part from the design .
For the first design I drew the sheep it was very hard but I tried to made it look nice as much as I can .
Week 11
During this week I received feedback about my two designs , So the feedback is the choice of the font that I chose for the design is not really reflecting the celebration , its better to look at font as ITC Garamond or any serif type face has a bolder weight , that might reflect the celebration the islamic festival .
So different choice of font should be considered , and not to use the Taylor's logo as KNIFE
so its better to take it off
Sheep nicely drawn but sadly its too illustrative , so its better to use letterform that maybe indicate sheep or give the sheep shape or indicate sheep , trying not to put graphical/object element that became central to the design.
So I started to think of another design with taking the feedback into consideration
I started by doing another design but it was so bad I'm not really satisfied with it by any mean

Week 12
I received feedback this week about the design that the spaces are not maintained correctly , and also E not easily read , so The overall design not okay so I decided to watch tutorials on Youtube to advance my ideas , More inspiration to come up with great sticker
So those are my progress after Week 12 .

Mr Shamsul Chose 8th Design , But he told me Choose one graphical element don't use both .
And Sheep Need to be more simplifeid
I came up with five different ideas

FEEDBACK
Week 11
General Feedback: Need to Develop more ideas with improvements
Specific Feedback: So the feedback is the choice of the font that I chose for the design is not really reflecting the celebration , its better to look at font as ITC Garamond or any serif type face has a bolder weight , that might reflect the celebration the islamic festival .
So different choice of font should be considered , and not to use the Taylor's logo as KNIFE

Week 12
General Feedback: Spaces not done correctly
Specific Feedback: That the spaces are not maintained correctly , and also E not easily read , so The overall design not okay
Week 13
General Feedback: Good Job
Specific Feedback: Me & Mr Shamsul Are glad for my sticker outcome
REFLECTIONS
Week 10
Experience
At the begging this task was stressful for me , because I wouldn't knew if I'm doing right or wrong because I tried to make it simple as much as I can and in the same time to express the festival .
Observation
I observed that for this task after receiving the feedback I knew what I did right and what I did wrong so the feedback really helped me in re developing more ideas
Findings
I found that the feedback is really important for me as it made me to start on the right path I knew what is wrong what is right so yeah I really learn from the feedback
Week 11
Experience
The experience of this week not good at all as my designs is not good enough at all and they're not expressing the the festival which is "EID ADHA MUBARAK"
Observation
I observed that this week I'm not really productive person as my mind lacking of ideas , but the feedback gave me a push to be more creative and to re-create more and more designs
Findings
I found that youtube tutorials really helped me a lot in making my telegram sticker to be better than what I have did before even Mr Shamsul liked my progress
Week 12
Experience
I really enjoyed this task , Its very challenging as I designed a lot of designs till I reached the last one so it was very stressed for me as I wanted to create a good sticker to be proud of myself
Observation
I observed that for this task I made a lot of designs to reach the last design so I took a lot of time and effort but I'm now satisfied with my outcome
I really had challenging time choosing the colour scheme .
Findings
I found that everything in the begging is hard but then when you got used to it , it became easier than how you began .
Everything takes time , effort , a lot of trials and errors like what happened to me during this task

| Figure 28: Cover Page of Design elements of Typography Fundementals by Kristin Cullen (25/6/2021) |
Actually after going through this book , I found that this book highlights how typography affects design also talks about considerations in selecting typefaces.
It Also has guiding principles to teach the language of type and how to use it capably.
The book has quick introduction to typography with very basic principles of typography so it might be very helpful for beginners like me.
"Typography is the craft of endowing human language with a durable visual form.”
― Robert Bringhurst
You can find typography everywhere. Across environments, packaging, printing etc. it helps to communicate language to the audience.
Designers use their creativity and tools to bring text into life.
This book had showed me that typography is not about handwriting, calligraphy or lettering. Typographic characters are abstracts constructs or images with no text to communicate. Simply art made.
 |
| Figure 29: The motion sequence visualise the sound and voice, graphic elements frame the viewing area and support typographic action (25/6/2021) |
Topics discussed in this book included the fundamental elements of typography. And I was so interested to learn more about typesetting factors due to its major role on either improving or weakening the design. There are four typesetting factors in typography including:
- Space & spacing: space can modify the feel and look of type. Either positively or negatively. It adjusts the overall appearance of words, paragraphs etc.
 |
| Figure 30: example of apt tracking applied to upper case settings which rely on open spacing for better recognition |
- Alignments & paragraphs: type of configurations alignments are flash-left, flash right/ragged right, centered and justified.
- Hierarchy
- Aesthetic tailoring
This book clearly explains how elements of typography can be used in order to come up with good designs. What are the rules you shouldn’t break. In addition to it has a good illustrations for every method or element to easily deliver the information. I would highly recommend this book to my classmates or anyone interested in learning the fundamentals of typography
A good typeface is a system of thoughtfully conceived and constructed characters working together as words, lines and paragraphs It is highly readable, with good counter-spaces built in and around the characters.
