REFLECTION

Observation

I have acquired a substantial amount of knowledge regarding culture. While I have become accustomed to the culture in where I resided, my exploration of diverse cultures has significantly broadened my perspective, highlighting the importance of avoiding a narrow and insular existence. Initially, my fascination in Mexican culture stemmed from the movie Coco. It has been observed that movies and television shows have the ability to further accentuate cultural elements. We have chosen Mexican culture, particularly The Day Of The Dead, which is characterized by vibrant colors, skulls, and light. I have determined that engaging with Mexican culture would be an enjoyable experience.

Experience

I thoroughly enjoyed this process, as it provided ample opportunities for creative expression and pushed me outside my comfort zone to explore and enhance my personal strengths. Throughout the process, I encountered numerous obstacles, such as the responsibility of assigning tasks to each member, given my role as the group leader and the reliance they placed on me. I struggled to maintain optimal performance as I occasionally experienced confusion over the most appropriate course of action. Occasionally, my group members aided me in gaining a broader perspective on the disparities among various cultures through our conversations. Furthermore, this experience has facilitated my observation of cultural parallels, particularly in the context of Malaysia, which is geographically proximate. I have acquired the skill of pausing to reflect and analyze information before reaching a decision. I am grateful for the support of my team members who assist me in developing a more forward-thinking mindset, allowing me to consider other possibilities.

Findings

I derive pleasure from acquiring knowledge about cultural differences, as it enriches my educational experience. Furthermore, it was previously unknown to me that Mexican culture encompasses a broader scope than the Day of the Dead. During our discussion with Mr. Sathish, who had extensive expertise in Mexico, he graciously imparted numerous captivating anecdotes to us. I sincerely desired to engage in further conversation with him, as he appeared to possess a highly receptive mindset, and hearing his perspective was profoundly emotionally uplifting. Additionally, it imbues me with a desire to travel to Mexico. After conversing with him, I have observed that Mexico exhibits a remarkable degree of friendliness and warmth towards foreigners, a phenomenon that is not widely observed. I am immensely appreciative to be a part of this remarkable trip alongside the lecturers who have provided us with assistance throughout. The experience has proven to be quite enlightening and highly valuable.
