Week 5 - Symbol, Image & Word
During this week we learned about Symbol , Imagery and words (Typography)
Symbol
So let's start with the symbol , basically A symbol can be an object, shape, sign, or character used to represent something else. (vocabulary.com).
In Design wise the symbol role is to provide or convey information, equivalent to one or more sentences of text, or even a whole story. There are 3 parts of graphic symbols .
1-Pictorial Symbols.
2-Abstract Symbols.
3-Arbitrary Symbols
The breakdown of different types of symbols shown in the figure below;
| Figure 3 Abstract Symbols |
Many of them based on geometric shapes and colours.
Imagery is a vital part of design , be it print or digital .
Users and viewers are able to relate to a concept or a brand if the right images are used in a work of design that's why its very important to use suitable images when it comes to designing
Typography is the design and arrangement of text to convey a message or concept.
Successful use of typography will result in visual hierarchy and balance in a work of design.
INSTRUCTIONS
Exercises: Symbols, Imagery & Typography

Arbitrary Symbol
Visual Research
I was thinking to design something that is related to the pandemic ( Covid-19 ) ,
Because simply Covid-19 has upended societies and dramatically altered everyday life across the globe.
I was thinking to design something related to the vaccination and the importance of wearing the masks.
So When someone is vaccinated, they are very likely to be protected against the targeted disease, so that's the aim of the symbol .

Vaccinating and wearing the masks not only protects yourself, but also protects those in the community with you. If you are able to, get vaccinated.

Feedback 1
Miss Maria told me "The arbitrary usually based on geometrical shape. The symbol shows above these are pictorial symbol"
So I started to follow Miss Maria's instructions and feedback to do another Arbitrary symbol following the feedback given by her

As I wanted say in this design by vaccination and wearing your mask you will protect yourself.
I used the mask here to represent the mask and the shield as well as It has the same shield shape so you gonna be protected by mask (its like shield) for protection and the wings here representing the peace , so you will be living peaceful life if you got the vaccine.

Feedback
Overall Miss Maria Liked My work and my effort .
Reflection
I really enjoyed this assignment a lot due to the photography part , it was quite hard for the symbol as you have to come up with idea that doesn't exist and this is so hard now a days as everything now well updated so the hardest part is the creativity part .
For me it was very good learning experience and process as it was my first time to understand the signs and the types as well .
Miss Maria is really very lovely and helpful , she kept explaining for me many times to produce better work.
I'm excited for the next exercise!!
