REFLECTIONS
Experience
From the start of the module when I came into first year in degree , it was my first year in taylor's I really had no idea what typography was, all my information about typography is the text on any design or any drawing, It was extremely very new to me to be honest , Even during my foundation year it's way different and we didn't go through any details.
It was very very basic information about typography during my foundation year last year.
But during this module it was very detailed.
To be honest at the begging it was super confusing and it seems complicated but I really tried my best to understand this subject and to go through everything in this subject as much as I can, by watching the lecturers videos and during the class to be very concentrated and to write down notes and to do some research to understand more by watching tutorials on Youtube.
To be honest sometimes it was hard to pay attention to all of the details, however I learned a lot from this module. I wouldn't have known what is kerning means, and tracking or even cross alignment.
I have learned very simple things that really matters in terms of typography but without them your layouts would look so incorrect, before talking this module I was doing it by sense I feel its okay so its okay but now the situation is totally different than before.
I learned how to use indesign for the first time in my life and illustrator as well, at the begging I really had no idea even how to write anything using those Adobe Apps especially in terms of the work we were doing but by practicing and watching hundreds of tutorials my performance really improved .
The good point In this module for each and every new assignment there was something new to learn for the first time for me and it was overall a okay but you have to do a lot of trials , errors and effort to learn and the most important thing to take the feedback/criticism with very beautiful smile and to Redo your work that's how you gonna learn.
Observation
Basically the thing that I have learned in Typography it's all about the details .
Mr Vinod told us once ' You couldn't run before you learn how to walk ', You have to know the rules before breaking them and it's all about the details the smallest detail can make a big difference within your work.
I have learned during this module that without mistakes and errors and trials you will not learn anything and you have to accept all the feedbacks you have got because those feedbacks really very important because after you receive the feedback you will look at your own design with very different perspective you will see a very small details that you did wrong . sometimes I really do very obvious things wrong , and what I have learned that I had to learn to focus more on the details to be more critical when observing my work.
Later on I learned that I had to focus on the details more than the big things or the bigger picture I also learned about colours, and typefaces especially for the Sticker task can impact so much to the work. After I got conducted all the information during this course I learned that everything lies in the power of the details and they're usually not in our consideration most of the time while they're really very important to create great piece of artwork . And also I noticed that this module its like feeding the eye , I can easily now notice the mistakes within any poster or design or the size portions or if the colours not suitable for the festival or the design now I feel like my eyes are way healthier than before.
Findings
I found that after I'm done with for example sticker or animation within this module I found that I felt very proud of myself for example for the sticker I forced my family and friends to use it in the upcoming EID ADHA , as long as its used by anyone that is super good feeling and also for the animation I knew that they are only couple of seconds but still im proud of myself , For the animation part within this module its wasn't very easy to be honest because not every animation you create it gonna be an eye catchy enough So it requires a lot of practicing and tutorials and errors , I really found that I spent around 4 weeks to produce good animation that represent the word that I was working on but without the trials and errors I wouldn't have learned anything.
I need to highlight that simplicity is not an easy thing by any mean , you have to put into consideration to keep the design simple but keeping it interesting at the same time this especially for editorial assignment .
I also found that typefaces are extremely important there are hundreds of books and articles and chapters only talking about the typefaces part I noticed that while I'm doing the further reading, The purpose is to catch the eyes however they can't be too in your face it will not be professional at all, so the message is the most important thing at the end of the day so you have to be careful if the viewer notices the typeface rather than the message itself, if this happened so you're on trouble right now !
After-all I noticed at the end of the semester that I enjoyed this subject but at the end and I really learned a lot in this module and it's doable not that impossible thing like everyone says !
When you go through the battle it's totally different than when you hear about it , so don't be afraid from unknown things you have to discover by yourself .
Lastly, thank you very much for Mr. Vinod and Mr. Shamsul for the entire journey for the semester, Im so happy and honoured that Both of you conducted this module to me.
